Zeisel, Mostly
Schmid Ironstone
The molds for the Schmid Ironstone were originally made for Western Stoneware's Monmouth Stoneware, but were later reissued by Hollydale of California before being purchased by Schmid in the late '50's, who brought them out in new, brighter colors and glazes. These are one of Zeisel's most important designs, since she designed not only the shapes but the decorations as well. The decorations are crisp traditional, swirls, snowflakes and scrolls, and the serving pieces have the shape and markings of birds, much like Zeisel's simple plain white dishware, but with an added playful, spirited sense of fun.
